Executive Board Members 2009-2010

President	Vanessa Gonzalez is a senior at UIC and a Kinesiology major. She is currently active on campus through many other student organizations and research projects. She enjoys making people laugh and spending time with Hunter, her 4 year old yellow Labrador. Vanessa's goal is to attain an combined M.D./Ph.D degree in order to better assess the science of illnesses present in minority communities. As of now, she is leaning towards being a Nephrologist, because in her opinion, kidneys get no love for doing some of the body's most important functions.

Vice President	Sara is the Vice President of the Health Oriented Latino Association and is a junior majoring in political science (pre-medical). She is involved in Undergraduate Student Government (USG) as an assembly member, a is part of UIC Senate as a student senator and an English tutor for the Confederation of Latin American Students (CLAS). Along with that she is a second year Medicina Scholar in the Hispanic Center of Excellence in Medicine Program. Sara is interested in becoming a neurologist. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her little sisters.

Secretary	Hi my name is Lester Leong and I am the secretary of HOLA. I'm a neuroscience major, a sophomore, and a professional chess player. Other activities I am involved in APAMSA. I'm a sociable person and love rainy days.

Treasurer	Hello, Im Alex Almazan and I am the treasurer of HOLA and I will be declaring sociology as a major and it is my third year here. I am also apart of HCOE's medicina scholars and Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. I would eventually love to become a Pediatrician and specialize in Respiratory care. I love to be in a positive atmosphere and secretly love singing!

Director of Publicity	Lupe Chavez is an enthusiastic young lady with an abiding love for all of earths creatures. That's why she's a biology premed hoping to pursue the field of pediatrics. Her love of arts and crafts stops no shorter than her position as a Director of Publicity. She is very actively involved in the HCOE's Medicina Scholars program, as well as her education, 15 years in the making. In her spare time, she enjoys thinking deeply, sharing a few laughs, and singing and dancing along an amped up background of folk rock.

Director of Publicity	My name is David G. Martinez and am a Director of Publicity for HOLA. I am 19 years old. I was born and raised in Chicago. I love to play soccer, listen to music and volunteer. I'm a very friendly person and get along with virtually everyone; I hope to meet you one day.

Director of Fundraising	Hi my name is Nancy Gonzalez and I am the Director of Fundraising for HOLA. I'm a junior at UIC with a kinesiology major. I'm also the secretary of Colleges against Cancer and I'm in the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. I haven't changed my career goal since second grade and that is to become a pediatrician--I love children! A secret about me... I am a transformers fanatic! If I could be a transformer, I would be Bumblebee, hands down. Autobots, transform and roll out!-Optimus Prime.

Director of Fundraising	Joram Chung is the Director of Fundraising in HOLA along with Nancy Gonzalez and Angelica Alonso. He is a Bio/Pre-Med Major and is currently a sophomore at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Currently he is not involved in any other organizations besides HOLA. He wishes to become a doctor but not sure what kind. Aside from school, Joram loves to produce music.

Director of Fundraising	My name is Angelica Alonso and I am part of the Fundraising Chair for HOLA! I am currently a senior at the College of Applied Health majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Psychology. I am involved with a couple of other organizations including Alternative Spring Break (president), LS-AMP, Medicina Scholars, Honors College Student Leadership Council, ASCEND and conduct research. I would like to pursue an MD/PhD in OB/GYN and diabetes. Although I love science, I enjoy volunteering and dancing.

Project Coordinator	Hello my name is Jeanette Agustin and I'm a Kinesiology major, a 3rd year at UIC and the Project Coordinator of HOLA. I'm also a part of other UIC organizations like Medicina Scholars and Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. I am pursuing to be an obstetrician/gynecologist. I love to travel.

Recruitment & Retention	Luis is a senior at UIC majoring in Biological Sciences and Latin American and Latino Studies. Besides HOLA he is also part of the Medicina Scholars program through the Hispanic Center of Excellence at the UIC College of Medicine. Luis is interested in becoming a physician and will begin medical school in the fall of 2010. He also plays guitar in a metal band in his spare time.

Historian	Hi my name is Fausto Chavez and I am the historian of HOLA. I am currently a junior and my major is Sociology with a minor in History. I am deeply involved in HCOE’s Medicina Scholar program and one day hope to become a pediatrician. In my spare time I enjoy listening to music, especially Passion Pit and Ben Folds.

Director of Volunteering	Hello my name is Diego Marquez and I am a Director of Volunteering. I am a junior at UIC and am majoring in Biology. Apart from HOLA I am a member of Theta Xi fraternity and volunteer at the UIC Hospital. I hope to one day become a doctor. When I am not working I enjoy playing soccer and playing vide games.

Director of Volunteering	Hello my name is Melissa Mariscal and my position in the HOLA executive board is the Director of Volunteering. I am a junior in pursuit of a double major in Biological Sciences and Latin American and Latino Studies. I am also a 3rd year in the Medicina Scholars Program. My aspiring medical profession would be a pediatrician. A fun fact about myself is that I constantly try changing hobbies. Currently I am trying to make my own candles from scratch!

Director of Volunteering	Hello my name is Arturo Tobias and am a member of the Volunteering Committee. I’m in my third year of college and enjoying life. This is my first year being involved in any kind of student organization at UIC and HOLA has offered me great experiences. I enjoy playing soccer and taking long romantic walks along the beach.
