Cultural Activities

The Black Student Union seeks to increase our understanding of the cultural values of Africans throughout the Diaspora.

The Ma'afa
"Ma'afa" means, the black holocaust. Essentially, this annual event is composed of the celebrated African Gum Boot dance, cultural performance, and a keynote speaker to address the issue of slavery, it's formation and it's effects.

The African Heritage Ball
The African Heritage Ball is an annual event that celebrates the accomplishments of the decedents of Africa by way of formal dress, food and dance.

Teach-In's
Once a month we sponsor a workshop or "Teach In". The purpose of the Teach In is to educate us on the historical and present principle issues affecting our community. Teach In subjects have included the educational system, the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the need for more constructive action in our communities.
